so my Apple days are behind me now. it was sad to part ways, though my 3.5 years there were an amazing experience and i feel a whole lot more confident in my abilities than when i started. and financially, i can’t complain about having options priced during pre-iPhone days.
so what’s next? we came within a hair of doing the big move to Shanghai. it’s been something that’s been in the back of our minds for a while. i could finally learn chinese, Amo loves living there, and it would be great for Simon and for all our friends & family out there, too.
but alas, we decided that it’d be worthwhile to selectively pursue any opportunities that stood out as being worth putting off our china plans for and i’m excited to say that i found just that in Meebo. they are a mid-stage startup that have been around for a few years, and are starting to really focus on revenue growth this year. i’ll be joining them as their first project manager to help bring some sanity and consistency to their product release schedule. not only are the company and position both a great fit, but so were all the folks i interviewed with. their hiring process is also pretty unique (see blog.meebo.com/?p=2146).
they are also mentioned in today’s NYT article today (at the very end) as one of silicon valley’s “hottest startups” that was co-founded by women (2 of the 3 founders).
so that’s why we’re in Shanghai now – to squeeze in a quick visit before i start!
After a whirlwind day of planning, we hit the road for Shanghai about 24 hours after deciding to go. Traveling with Simon was tough but not horrible, though we were dead tired by the time we arrived. After a day and a half of sleep, I’m finally feeling normal. The weather is pretty temperate, and we are excited to be here!
Here’s the view from my parent’s apt in Shanghai, in Pudong:
