a good credit score
i just pulled my free annual credit report and (not free) FICO credit score…i’m starting a conversation with Damian’s mortgage broker just to see how much home i might be able to afford…
by the way, be sure to pull your free report from annualcreditreport.com, and NOT freecreditreport.com (which signs you up for a pay service that you then have to cancel). the former is the official, unbiased site.
anyways, my FICO score is finally in the top tier (775 out of 800). =) after all those years of struggling to pay down my debt, now that i’m finally debt-free, a benefit is that i’ve got this huge credit history of evidence that i’m a good credit risk. some interesting stats:
- i’m in the credit files since Jan 1974 (when i was 3)
- i have 21 *closed* loan accounts, which add up to $544,500 worth of credit available over the years
- today i have 5 open accounts, and only 2 of them have balances (my mortgage & home equity loan)
