lots o’ Mac stuff in Q2

technology | Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

so Microsoft Vista launched to consumers 2 weeks ago, to lukewarm reviews and pretty meager sales. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer warned investors to “not get too excited” over Vista sales, and also blamed low sales on piracy. I have it installed, and though it looks pretty good, there’s nothing too great about it…it’s mostly annoying the way it prompts me to approve every little thing I try to do.

anyways, Apple is gearing up for a big assault. the Mac rumors are heating up, as all signs are pointing to some big announcements in the coming weeks/months:

  • first, there were no Mac announcements at MacWorld in January - it was all iPhone. so Mac stuff is overdue.
  • the next update to OS X, Leopard, is expected at the end of March. iLife ‘07 and iWork ‘07 should launch alongside it.
  • the Mac Pro is due for a refresh, expected to come with 8 CPU cores (2 x quad-core CPUs)
  • iMac and Mac Mini also ready for updates
  • Adobe is finally releasing Creative Suite & Photoshop as Intel-native apps

…a black iMac in the works, perhaps?
