lvm42w2
i came across this detailed review of the LCD TV i bought back in August:

Westinghouse LVM-42w2 1080p LCD Display Review
The Westinghouse LVM-42w2 has the claim of being one of the first true 1080p displays in the world – and they’ve earned it. This LCD display is among the most aggressive units on the market in terms of its pricing point and specifications.

why i like it:

  • it’s 1080p – (i.e. it’s native resolution is 1900×1080). most LCD/Plasma TVs right now at 720p native. you don’t need 1080p for normal DVDs (which are a only 480p), but you’ll need it for things coming soon: HD-DVDs & BluRay DVDs (out by Christmas), and forthcoming Xbox 360 & Playstation 3 games. you can also download 1080 content online. here’s a nice visual of how screen resolutions compare. the HD-DVD addon for Xbox 360′s comes out next week for only $200 and includes a copy of King Kong.
  • it’s a Westinghouse (?!) – not exactly a name brand in consumer electronics, but for some reason they’ve got a killer line of affordable LCD TVs out.
  • it’s a great monitor for your computer – plug in the DVI connector, and it’s a sharp PC/Mac monitor at 1900×1200.
  • it’s cheap! i paid under $1700 and even allowed myself to buy it at bestbuy (gag) *and* got the extended warranty for it (double-gag). it was small & light enough that i tossed it in the back of my honda accord and brought it up into the apartment by myself (but i wouldn’t recommend it).
  • the hd1080i blog guy refers to the Westinghouse & super-expensive Sonys as the best 1080p displays.
