saving face is great
saving face is a better joy luck club. it’s hilariously funny, self-deprecating chinese culture without being demeaning. at the same time the story is touching and stays true to it’s focus on the women’s lives without subtle asian men bashing like in JLC. joan chen is great as Ma, though it was weird to see her in a non-glamorous role. this movie is writer/director Alice Wu’s first feature. Will Smith is one of the producers.
