…ok, well, we’re learning it. after months of considering what sort of gym to join (boxing, muay thai, tae kwon do), my baby came up with a great find - USA Shaolin Temple. it’s an authentic shaolin abbott (well, as authentic as can be in manhattan) that’s run by Sifu Shi Yan-Ming - a 34th Generation Shaolin Temple Fighting Monk. he defected to the U.S. in 1992 while on the first-ever Shaolin Temple Monks tour of the U.S. not only is the abbott exactly the type of school we were looking for, but it’s also right down the street from me and it’s affordable.
we’ve both been feeling constant pain and soreness after taking classes for almost a week now…but we’re loving it. the classes are 2 hours long, and i feel like past experience with muay thai and yoga both come in handy…but neither come close to the strength & complexity needed to do the kung fu forms correctly. it’s gonna take lots and lots of practice…

picasa2 is an amazing, totally free photo management program from google. like blogger.com, it was a really cool startup that google acquired and then released their product for free. the program is a lot like apple’s iphoto, but it runs on windows pcs. great interface, easy to use, and *fast*.
so i’ve been on the south beach diet for the past 2 weeks. well, it resembles the SB diet at least. minimal/no bad carbs, & fruits, plenty of veggies, dairies, meats. the difference from Atkins is that SB doesn’t allow “bad” fats - whereas on Atkins you’d technically be allowed to eat fatty bacon all day long.
i’ve dropped a few lbs, i think. but the most important part is a constant awareness of what i eat & drink. getting into that mode is the hardest part, but once you get into it, it’s pretty easy to maintain.
amazon’s search engine site, a9.com, now has yellow pages with PICTURES of the storefronts for 10 major cities (including NYC)…and you can virtually walk up & down the street to see what stores are on it. you can pretty much virtually walk thru the entire city. it’s crazy. it’s awesome.
so i looked up the picture of my building, but there’s a friggin’ truck in front of it!
