offer

personal things | Saturday, July 31st, 2004

for the first time in my life, i’ve made an offer on a property. surprisingly, for my biggest purchase ever, i’m pretty calm about whether i get it or not. funny that i’d scour the internet and do tons of research to buy the right gadget at the right price, but for this i’m just kinda wingin it. i’m pretty sure i didn’t do as much due diligence in researching the property as i should have. it’s just kind of a gut feel.

if there’s one thing i learned during unemployment, it’s to not stress about uncertainty in the future. at the start of being unemployed, all i thought about was going to business school. then i’d interview at a hot company, and have visions of working there. then it was moving to LA. and then it was moving to NYC. after a while, looming change was no longer something to stress about. now i just go with the flow, and it’s taken me to a good place so far. let’s see what happens here.

get a tripod for better nighttime photography

improvement and tips | Monday, July 26th, 2004

i got a tripod to help take better night shots with my sony dsc-w1 digital camera. it’s pretty much impossible to get a good night shot by hand – the slightest movement makes it all blurry because the shutter is open for so long. but with the tripod…ooh, they come out nice. click the pic for some shots i took of union square tonight.

might be buying

personal things | Monday, July 26th, 2004

i may be buying an apartment soon, even though i wasn’t quite ready to (15 months of unemployment puts a dent in the ol’ savings). but an opportunity has come up to do a “1031 exchange” with my aunt to help with the downpayment. since i co-signed on her last mortgage, this is her way of helping me out in return.

regardless of whether it all works out or not, i’m learning a lot about the process. from inspecting my credit report from all 3 bureaus to learning the quirks of NYC real estate (coops are scary) and the whole contract/mortgage process…it’s all good to know.

oh, how i love my current apartment so…but i gotta give this a shot and see what happens.

howard’s bulletin board

media, news, society | Friday, July 23rd, 2004

howard’s been talking a lot about the bulletin board that finally went up on howardstern.com. the names of celebrities and characters on the show are highlighted in yellow, so you can see when they are online and what they posted. i’m sure other celebrities have sites like this, but i’m finding it really cool to see how interactive it makes the show. it’s all for fun right now, but Howard’s pretty much preparing for the day when he’s yanked off the air – with the bulletin board, he’ll have a direct method of communication with his audience.
