yippee skippee!

let’s hang him in times square and cut off an appendage a day! a new holiday tradition!
hmm, i’ll try and keep track of places i been (if only for my own reference). not sure how long this’ll keep up, though…
Nublu: small bar/dance club hidden away in the e village behind a plain lookin door. nice outdoor patio.
Lucky Cheng’s: a touristy tranny bar (like AsiaSF in SF) that turns karaoke after-hours. kinda sleazy, seemed like a buncha teeny bopper bridge & tunnel folk. scary lookin trannies.
bauhaus: another small dance club (hip hop), cool atmosphere (similar to the hip hop room in avalon/limelight).
Noca: small dance club spinning good popular/80’s, no cover! a little outta the way in lower w side.
i’ve been doing a bit of video editing lately, since i won’t have access to the dvd burner on my desktop pc soon. i had a bunch of camcorder footage that i wanted to turn into DVDs that i could give to my relatives - my sister’s wedding and grandma’s 90th birthday party. it’s SUCH a pain in the ass to do, though. first ya gotta transfer the video from camcorder to PC, which requires the right firewire connection/cable and about 20GB of hard drive space for an hour of footage. then ya edit the scenes, create titles, transitions, etc. i used Pinnacle Studio 8, which is pretty easy to use. but then when you’re done, ya gotta render the whole DVD, which is about a 6 hour process, and then you burn it to disc (another hour on my old-school 1X burner). Studio 8 was driving me crazy cuz it kept erroring out AFTER rendering for several hours. really annoying.
i used imovie on an apple ibook last year and it was just totally unusable. i can’t believe apple promotes video editing as a feature on it - it’s way too underpowered to do anything.
the last samurai
the NY Post called this movie "condescending" - i couldn’t agree more. it starts with Tom Cruise being recruited to help train the japanese emporer’s army how to fight, because apparently they’re a bunch of bumbling baffoons who can’t shoot straight. when he’s forced into a battle against the samurai, he’s captured (after single-handedly holding off about 7 samurai). while in captivity for a few months, he manages to transform from despised prisoner into one of the best samurai swordfighters and the samurai warlord’s right-hand man. and oh yeah, he also wins the love of the widow and kids of the samurai he killed before being captured. then he leads the samurai into one final battle where they all die in a blaze of glory…but of course Tom Cruise survives, and makes it back to the widow and her family in the end.
despite reeking of hollywood cheese, it was somewhat entertaining to watch. it’s not a bad movie, just typical.
damn, i’ve exceeded my bandwidth allotment on my web host, so a lot of pics may not show up (not to mention my website’s down) until the next billing period.
