Mystic River
Mystic River was a good (not great) flick. kind of a glorified CSI episode, but with great actors (kevin bacon, sean penn, tim robbins, morpheus). sean penn has the best performance, but then again, it’s not that hard to make people cry (not that i did - ha) when you play a dad who’s daughter is murdered. the end is pretty anti-climactic, and the whole sub-plot with kevin bacon’s wife is total cheese.
Lost in Translation was better, but only if you can deal with a flick that moves at a turtles pace without any apparent direction. it reminded me of being a teenager, going on a trip and having an amazingly fun, flirtatious (yet innocent) time with someone you really connected with. as the end draws near, you think about how to possibly keep it going after you get home, only to realize that it could never happen. and when it’s finally time to leave, you feel like your heart is being ripped out of your chest. that’s what this movie made me feel like. and it made me realize that i didn’t have nearly as good a time as i should have in tokyo.
