ok, i’m gettin the travel bug again. every time i settle down a bit, i have a conversation with someone about travelling and it gets me all riled up again. i had planned on an asia trip in the spring, but SARS screwed that all up. i’ve got to stick around the states until at least mid-Oct (after my sister’s wedding), but after that there’s nothin keeping me here. unless, of course, i have a job by then. we’ll see how things pan out…
wow, RSS is such a cool technology. i’d heard about it for a while, but never really looked into it until today.
after you install an rss reader application, you subscribe to any of thousands of "rss feeds" (such as CNN). the feeds send you only the headlines at first, and if you click on it, it’ll give you the full article. the headlines are updated at whatever interval you want.
the end result is that you can VERY quickly browse the newest articles of LOTS of different sites, only viewing the ones that interest you. and if the site you like doesn’t have an rss feed, you can make your own at myrss.com. i made a custom feed for job listings on craigslist with certain keywords; those are now pushed to me automatically.
i installed newsgator, which integrates into Outlook. it rocks! a piece of shareware that i’ll probably actually pay for.
i netflixed "ghandi" because i realized that i really had no clue what he did in history (yay, public school systems). very impressive story, and goddamn if that ben kingsley didn’t do a spot-on portrayal of the guy. no wonder he got the academy award (’83).
