random rants
sometimes people say, “you don’t work any more…what DO you do?” well, i’ll tell ya what i do…nothing. it’s not as easy as it sounds. you have to be careful, because the idea of doing anything can easily lead to doing something that would stop me from doing nothing, and that would force me to drop everything.

it’s embarrassing, but i admit it – i’m addicted to Safeway sushi. i go to Safeway all the time, since it’s right next to my gym in Potrero Center. it’s not as bad as it sounds. they’ve got their own sushi chef (i think he’s actually japanese) who’ll make stuff right in front of you, and everything that’s in containers is date-stamped so you know it was made that day. they even have the little cat statues that are in all the sushi places. how authentic.
i’ve been playing a cracked version of Unreal Tournament 2003 for a few months now, and was actually going to buy an official copy just so i could play it online and get slaughtered by all the kids out there. when you go online, it sends the serial number to the game publisher’s servers, so if you have a cracked version you can’t play.
once again, hackers come to the rescue. the unreal4all effort has developed a client/server hack that bypasses all that legal crap so we can all play!
i’m still kinda scared to go online though, cuz those kids whip my ass.
the color sidekick is out, but it’ll cost me $300 to upgrade from my black & white model. i can wait. i LOVE my sidekick, though it’s a bit bulky. when i need something slimmer (say, to take in a club), i pop out the SIM card and put it in my Sony T68i. god bless GSM phones.

come to think of it, hackers saved the day with my T68i, too. the GSM carriers “lock” their phones to their network, so when i bought my T68i (used, off craigslist, like half the things i own) it was locked to AT&T and wouldn’t work on T-mobile (even though the phone itself was totally compatible). those bastards. anyways, i found a friendly guy on (surprise) craigslist who re-programmed the firmware (for a nominal fee, of course) so i can use it on any GSM network (with the right SIM card, of course). (i need to learn to write without using so many parentheses)
i’m gonna start studying for the PMP (Project Management Professional) certification exam. it costs frickin’ $500 to take, but i need every advantage possible in this job market. probably should have started this, oh, say 6 months ago, but that would’ve meant doing something, which would’ve interfered with my doing nothing…
